The egg-hatching O-Power, which is pretty neat, what with this generation being more breeding-focused than ever before*. Easiest way to get maximum style: just go to their pokeball shop, go down to "Premier Ball" (the cheap one) and spam the A button. You need to make individual purchases, not just buy 100 at once, but each purchase raises your style, so after a hundred of those, you should be good to go. Note: you also need to have all of the other O-Powers in order to get Hatching Power.
Where is Bonding, James Bonding in Lumiose City? I can't find him.

Also, does anyone know how to obtain the clothing boutique discount coupon? I know it's somehow gotten with Poké Miles...

He's in the cafe of course.
Cafe Introspection or Introversion. Take a taxi there, seriously.

I didn't even know such a thing existed.

Many thanks.

There's a chick in the Lumiose City Boutique that will say that there's a special discount coupon somewhere out there, and another one (I think) who says she has one, but that's all that's said about it in game. I've learned, via the X/Y guidebook, that it can be obtained with PokéMiles, but the PokéMiles guy does not seem to have it in his vendor list, which leads me to suspect that PGL shenanigans are required to get it. I've only got like half a dozen items of clothing left to purchase before I have everything, so it may not be worth it.

I don't think it's available via Pokemon Game Link either - I use that for my pokemiles (because the exchange rate is so much better, and it lets you buy Heart Scales at all, which sounds a lot better than searching up and down the beach constantly smashing rocks only to have to deal with low-level Sturdy pokemon, likewise visiting the dancing freak).

Then it is simply one more thing that Nintendo has refused me. Assholes.

By the way, you can also find Heart Scales (along with Pearls and Stardusts) on Route 8 with the Dowsing Machine, with no Rock Smashing required.

Like many mid-westerners I instinctively want to troll anyone who matches a fedora with sunglasses and vinyl pants, so I quit worrying about the coupon pretty much immediately since I wouldn't be picking up that many items anyway.

That's right, beaches always generate random crap to find. I should have remembered.

And a quick internet search suggests no actual item exists, the NPCs are just trolling you. Alternatively, you could think of it as "I have maximum fashion, which gives me a discount: that is my coupon."

One time, in Crystal, I went into Dark Cave and just caught every single Zubat I came across for about an hour, not for business, but for pleasure. By the end, I had 20 boxes full of Zubat. It was a glorious time, to be sure.

I've been finding the Battle Spot metagame to be really fun. I threw this team together really quick, currently 4-0 on Showdown (not that that means anything):

- Mega Kangaskhan (standard set with Crunch over Earthquake)
- Scarfchomp (thinking of maybe changing to Yachechomp)
- Life Orb Talonflame
- Mega Gengar (right now Sludge Bomb / Shadow Ball / Destiny Bond / Substitute, thinking Substitute might need replacing)
- Gyarados ("standard" bulky EV spread that nobody uses anymore but is still the best Gyarados spread by far)
- And...MUK!
That's right, Muk. Somebody on Smogon had a clever Muk gimmick idea because he gets Infestation now. You run Minimize / Infestation / Gunk Shot / Filler (I'm using Curse). It's hilarious.

I'm trying to breed this for use in-game. If anyone has any of these mons I can borrow for breeding stock, let me know. I have Gyarados almost done.

So, I've been wondering for a while who on the Den actively plays Pokémon, and after careful, thoroughly scientific research of the POKYMANS thread, I have compiled this list of known Pokymanners:

- Me

- Darth Rabbitt

- Koumei

- Surgo

- Whipstitch

- CapnTthePirateG

Is that everyone, or are there other Denners that have preferred to hide in the shadows, waiting to be eaten grue?

I play off and on. I want X or Y, but I don't have the right DS.

So maybe in some months, when I have some financial stuff straightened out (I've having to cash in my 5-year-old 401k to do it, but at least I'll be able to pay this bullshit), I'll be able to get a 2DS and pokeymans it up with everyone else.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

Incidentally, although the pay-outs are a lot kinder with Maison Frommage Frottage ala' Cordon Merde than with subways and all that, the RNG still fucks with you in a literal cheating manner. Likewise, the AI will choose its moves after you choose yours just to piss you off and cheat some more.

Whoever came up with the idea really needs to have their groin stomped on, with golf shoes.

Definitely waiting for AR3DS.

So because gimmicks are the most fun part of the random battles, I'm trying to make a gimmick 3v3 team. Right now I only have Muk; I'm looking for two more good gimmickmons. Someone on Smogon did some sweeps with Durant but I can't seem to find the set or strategy they were using.

What do you mean by "gimmick"?
Muk could do a good themeteam with other oozes, there are enough choices:
  • Reuniclus (Psychic: Trick Room Ahoy!)
  • Magcargo (Fire/Rock I think. No idea how you'd utilise it)
  • The gastropod thing that's Ground/Water and can have Storm Drain/Sand Force
  • Ditto
  • Goodra: if you're looking at a source of rain, go Hydration. Maybe go Sap Sipper as a way to switch the gastropod out. But Gooey is pretty awesome otherwise - foes can choose to slow themselves down to get killed (or revenge killed) or to plink away uselessly with special attacks.
So for a team of 3, that gives you options.

Does anyone have a:

- Staryu
- Pinsir
- Houndour
- Poochyena
- Aron
- Lileep
- Anorith
- Sawk

I ask because I need these for my Pokédex, preferably for keeps but I wouldn't be adverse to just trade backs.

Also, for those who have X, would anyone want to trade me the Mega Stones exclusive to that version?

Staryu: I *think* so. I can probably catch you one otherwise.
Pinsir: I can quickly Ditto-breed one, it'll take a lot less time than trying to catch another.
Houndour: I do have one, yeah. Might be Doom, so you'd need to breed it.
Poochyena: I either have a Mightyena (so you'd need to breed) or a Poochyena I can trade
Aron: easy
Lileep: Cradily good enough?
Anorith: Armaldo good enough?
Sawk: I dunno maybe?

I'm willing to part with Elektrite and Tyranitarite as I don't use them, but I'm a big fan of Mega-Pinsir, Char-X and M2X.

If others are able to cover some of the trades that'd be good though, because it's kind of a long, boring process actually sitting there through all that.

Gimmick meaning -- team of pokemon that are never seen because they suck, working because they abuse some small corner case. They'll lose to a prepared team, but can quickly overwhelm even uber teams with their minor gimmick.

They're a lot easier to run in 2v2 because the team-up aspect can cover serious weaknesses. In DP/PBR random battles (which were double battles, 4v4 total), I ran Squirtle/Solrock/Camerupt/Rampardos. I've just thrown together a team using a similar core, but it's a little different (and a LOT less reliable) because of new priority moves and restrictions:

Lead:
Medicham @Medichamite
Fake Out
Hi Jump Kick
Psycho Cut
Protect

Solrock @Lum Berry OR Lunatone @Focus Sash
Trick Room
Explosion
Filler
Filler

Medicham stops one of the opponent from moving, guaranteeing his partner can get Trick Room off. I used to run only Solrock, but now I have to run both Solrock and Lunatone because of the amount of priority status out there. I choose between the two based on whether it looks like they'll have a really powerful lead without status (Lunatone) or something like Machamp or another status-inducer (Solrock).

Then there's the cleanup crew:

Camerupt @Life Orb
Eruption
Earth Power
Explosion
Whatever

Rampardos @Something (haven't figured it out yet)
Head Smash
Crunch
Hammer Arm
Whatever

These are simply mons that have some kind of serious power behind them (they both have a 150 BP STAB attack and acceptable attacking stats; Camerupt hits the entire field for full damage) and are never seen otherwise because they suck. I haven't figured out a 6th team member yet.

But, yeah, gimmick. When was the last time you saw Solrock, Lunatone, or Camerupt? Let alone beating teams of regular OUs?

Fine by me!

Either works!
Aron: easy
Yay!

Quite alright!

Those're good, I don't have a Pinsir or a Charizard.

Here's a replay of the gimmick in action. Actually, this battle is NOT one where it goes "according to plan". I had faced a similar team before and recognized a double Fake Out opening, so I had to modify the plan a bit. Normally it's just trick room and boom, but I actually kept Solrock around a bit longer. I'm gonna modify his set a bit too because when that happens again an actual attacking move like Psychic or Power Gem would be really helpful.

One really annoying thing about gimmicks is that minor hax can fuck you over really bad. Before that battle I lost literally three in a row because Rampardos missed Head Smash. Nothing really to be done about it -- he needs the move to be useful, he's not an OU pokemon for a reason so he's not really reliable.

Gastrodon protects rhyperior and ninetales from water attacks.
Rhyperior covers Ninetales from lightning and thunderwave.
The whole team resists fire, and Ninetales absorbs it. Consider giving Rhyperior and Ninetales balloons to ward off earthquake.

Ninetales can be replaced by Joey's roommate if you'd like Shadowtag instead.

----
"Shadow Tag"
1) Wobuffet
2) Chandler
3) Gothloli

Set up screen/reflect, use toxic/willywisp, calm mind it up.

---
"Three Amigos"
1) Ludicolo
2) Maractus
3) Hawlucha

throw lots of leech seeds and status/confusion inducing moves

---
"Sannin"

-Greninja
-Ninjask
-Accelgor

Give all of them U-Turn. On the first turn U-Turn them into:

-Sudowoodo
-Sudowoodo (or that tree stump ghost)
-Sudowoodo (or your next favorite "resembles a log" pokemon)

----
"Hello we are Fats"
-Snorlax
-Hariyama
-Milktank

----

-Dugtrio
-Hydregon
-Dodrio

----

-Lickylicky
-Tangrowth
-Tentacruel

----

-Gyarados
-Jynx
-Exploud

Everyone has Hyperbeam

Ninetails, Gastrodon, and Rhyperior are all very commonly-seen Pokemon (well, less so Rhyperior) so I'd not use those. So are Wobbuffet, Greninja, Gyarados, Tentacruel, Dugtrio, and to a lesser extent Hydreigon (okay, he's not so good now but he was one of the top mons in BW).

I see what you're going for with some of those teams, but I would like to actually win :-( it's less of a "theme team" (that's easy) and more of a "what random corner case do these overlooked/obscure mons abuse to cheat wins off of unprepared people". With Muk it's that he gets both Infestation and Minimize and has the bulk to start setting it up. With the double battle team, well, that one is pretty obvious.
